At River Ridge Learning Center, we take pride in being more than just a school, we are a place where adolescents discover their potential and build brighter futures. Our strength lies in meeting each student where they are, through a personalized curriculum, daily morning group therapy, and one-on-one private sessions. We see our students not just for their grades, but for who they are and who they aspire to become.
That’s why we are especially proud of our partnership with the Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS). Together, we are expanding opportunities for students beyond high school, connecting them with pathways that lead not only to jobs, but to meaningful, sustainable careers.
As part of our weekly Service Learning block, we recently welcomed representatives from DARS, Jessi Blosser and her partners from NUSKOOL Scholars, Samantha Hubbard & Tracy Ogden.
Their visit gave students the chance to explore possible futures in a hands-on and engaging way. Using virtual reality, students immersed themselves in real-world scenarios from deworming a dog in preparation for a veterinary career, role-playing as an EMT responder for those interested in firefighting or law enforcement, and performing an automotive oil change for aspiring mechanics. These activities sparked curiosity and excitement, helping students see themselves in professions they may never have considered before.
Before leaving, the DARS team provided resources and applications for students eager to take the next step. We are proud to share that two of our students immediately applied to begin their partnership with DARS, an inspiring reminder of how River Ridge empowers students to take action toward their futures.
At River Ridge, we believe our students’ possibilities are limitless. With the support of dedicated partners like DARS, we continue to be a place where students gain the tools, confidence, and vision to succeed.
