The RTR Teacher Residency Program at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in partnership with Waynesboro Public Schools offers a hands-on, school-based teacher preparation experience. Through both graduate and undergraduate pathways, residents gain the knowledge, skills, and real-world experience needed to be effective educators. If you already have your associate or bachelor’s degree, one of our pathways could be right for you!
This program also offers:
- a full salary and benefits as an employee of the school division for those pursuing their bachelor’s degree
- a stipend to cover the cost of your degree or certificate in education, leading to teacher licensure eligibility in elementary, secondary, or special education for graduate and undergraduate pathways

Yesterday, Nigel Stewart was sworn in as Waynesboro Public Schools' newest School Board member. A proud 2019 graduate of Waynesboro High School and Magna Cum Laude graduate of Virginia State University, Nigel is excited to give back to his hometown and serve our students, staff, and families.
