Hello Westwood Families!
March is right around the corner and spring is on its way! Below I have shared some upcoming events for the month of March and some reminders.
Upcoming Events:
Tuesday, March 3rd is a teacher workday. There will be no school for students on this day.
Wednesday, March 4th is Book Character Day! Students are invited to dress as their favorite book character.
Tuesday March 10th is spring picture day. Be on the lookout for more information about spring pictures.
Wednesday, March 11th we will have our 4th grade concert.
Wednesday, March 11th is also the end of the 3 nine-weeks.
Friday March 13th, Saturday March 14th, and Sunday March 15th we will be having our Musical - Nemo Jr and our Makerspace Market.
March 16th - 20th we will have our Spring Book Fair. More information will come home with your child about this event.
Tuesday March 17th is the WPS Multicultural Festival at KCMS from 5:00 - 8:00.
The event will include cultural performances, food tastings, and opportunities to celebrate the
many cultures represented in our school community.
Wednesday March 18th our 5th grade students will take their Integrated Writing and Reading SOL.
Wednesday March 18th we will have a PTO meeting at 5:30.
Friday March 20th report cards will go home.
Spring break is March 30th - April 6th. There will be no school for students on those days and our offices will be closed. Students will return to school on Tuesday April 7th.
We encourage all of our families to download the Waynesboro Public Schools app to help keep up with school and division events. The app is a great way to communicate with your child’s teachers and our office staff.
Reminder:
For the safety of our students,
Car riders should be dropped off in our back parking lot. When dropping off students or picking up students, please do not pass other cars and be sure to follow the directions of our staff.
We also ask that parents not drop students off in our front parking lot during our arrival times. That lot is reserved from 7:30 - 7:50 and from 2:30 - 3:00.
If your child arrives after 7:50 in the morning, you must walk them into the office to sign them in.
Chaperones:
As we are planning field trips, I want to remind parents that you must complete the online volunteer application if you intend to chaperone. This application can be found at the following link: https://www.waynesboro.k12.va.us/o/wps/page/volunteering-at-wps
This process takes up to two weeks to complete.
Additionally, for the safety of our students, parents and other family members cannot show up at a field trip and join the group without being approved to chaperone.

Safety Drills:
As we go through the school year, we will be conducting various safety drills, including lockdown drills, fire drills, tornado drills, and earthquake drills. These drills are required and used to teach students how we would respond in the event of an emergency.
At some point during the month of March, we will conduct a fire drill.
