Hello Westwood Families!
I hope everyone enjoyed their winter break! Second semester is right around the corner and we are excited to welcome students back. As we enter the month of January, I wanted to let you know about some upcoming events.
Upcoming Events:
Monday, January 5th and Tuesday, January 6th are teacher work days. There is no school for students on these days. Students will return to school on Wednesday January 7th.
Friday January 9th report cards will be sent home.
Wednesday January 14th we will be having a PTO meeting at 5:30 PM.
Monday January 19th is a holiday. There will be no school for students and our offices will be closed.
Tuesday January 20th we will host our spelling bee at 9:30.
Friday January 23rd we will have our 3rd - 5th grade movie night from 6:00 - 8:00. Please be on the lookout for more information about this event.
Wednesday January 28th is our 1st grade concert! More information will be sent home prior to this event.
We encourage all of our families to download the Waynesboro Public Schools app to help keep up with school and division events. The app is a great way to communicate with your child’s teachers and our office staff.
Reminder:
For the safety of our students,
Car riders should be dropped off in our back parking lot. When dropping off students or picking up students, please do not pass other cars and be sure to follow directions of our staff.
We also ask that parents do not drop students off in our front parking lot during our arrival times. That lot is reserved from 7:30 - 7:50 and from 2:30 - 3:00.
If your child arrives after 7:50 in the morning, you must walk them into the office to sign them in.
Chaperones:
As we are planning field trips, I want to remind parents that you must complete the online volunteer application if you intend to chaperone. This application can be found at the following link: https://www.waynesboro.k12.va.us/o/wps/page/volunteering-at-wps
This process takes up to two weeks to complete. Additionally, for the safety of our students, parents and other family members cannot show up at a field trip and join the group without being approved to chaperone.
If you have any questions, please contact our office.
Safety Drills:
As we go through the school year, we will be conducting various safety drills, including lockdown drills, fire drills, tornado drills, and earthquake drills. These drills are required and used to teach students how we would respond in the event of an emergency.
At some point during the month of January, we will conduct a fire drill.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our office at 540-946-4670.
Thank you!
