Meningococcal Vaccine Required

Subject: Rising Seniors-Meningococcal Vaccine

Immunization Requirements for Rising Seniors (Class of 2027).

It is a requirement of the Commonwealth of VA that all students entering the 12th grade receive:

  1. One dose of the Meningococcal conjugate (MCV4) vaccine after the child’s 16th birthday if they’ve never received a dose.

  2. A second dose of the Meningococcal conjugate (MCV4) vaccine if the first dose was given before the child’s 16th birthday.

  3. Please send proof of vaccine to your school nurse.

Twelfth grade students cannot begin school on August 12th without documentation of the Meningococcal Vaccine.

NOTE: The Waynesboro Health Department (540 Lew Dewitt Blvd Suite 5) will be doing immunizations; An appointment must be scheduled by calling (540) 569-4848. For those they can't accommodate on that day, they can make a list and get them rescheduled.

NOTE: They will bill insurance and if a student does not have insurance, there is no fee.

Valley Urgent Care (1921 Medical Avenue Suite A, Harrisonburg) can provide this immunization and will only take those who do not have insurance or only have Medicaid. They must schedule an appointment through the VSC Coordinator Kelly Lopez at (540) 434-5709.
