We started off our week with an Attendance Pep Rally with our friends from WHS! They stressed the importance of being in school each day so we can participate in fun things after school, see our friends and do our best learning during the school day. We appreciate your support at home in making Every Day Count! Our attendance contest wraps up on Friday. All the students are looking forward to seeing who has the best attendance this month! Third grade will visit Shenandoah National Park this week. Many other grade levels have field trips coming up in October. Be on the lookout for information from classroom teachers. This Friday, 9/29, we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at Lupita’s Ice Cream in Fishersville. Please stop by anytime between 4 and 9 PM, and be sure to mention Wenonah or take your flier along with you. Looking into next week, we have Walk to School Day on Wednesday, October 4th. This is a partnership with the Office on Youth and promotes safe routes to school. Thursday, October 5th is Apple Crunch Day! We will have a dress-up day to acknowledge this important natural resource for our state with Farmer Dress-Up Day on 10/5. Students will enjoy special snacks and activities throughout the week. Friday, October 6th is our second Genius Hour of the year! We will also have Kona Ice here to visit. This is a pre-pay event; information came home in Monday folders but can also be found visiting kona-ice.com/pay, code FO4981034. October 9th is a Teacher Work Day, October 10th is Parent Teacher Conference Day. We are excited to share your student’s progress with you! These fundraisers support our classrooms, our teachers and students, and the experiences we provide throughout the year. We wouldn’t be able to do it without you! We truly appreciate everyone that has participated so far in the Cookie Dough fundraising brochure or Online. It’s super easy to go online to register, to shop and to share the website with your family/friends that are near and far. Please refer to the Fundraiser Letter which contains all of the important detailed information and prize incentives about our fundraiser. Let your child’s teacher know if you need that info. All students that sell 10 items or more will get to attend our Fundraiser Celebration Party and all students that sell 20 items or more will also get to ride in a Stretch Limousine! Plus, there are many other exciting incentives for even higher sales. THANK YOU for your support and participation! Let’s make this fundraiser a HUGE success for our school and our students! Our Fundraiser ends on Wednesday September 20th. I want to highlight a few exciting things happening at Wenonah right now. We are happy to offer Girls on the Run this year. This is a structured program for girls in 3rd through 5th grade that focuses on positive self image and self esteem while also emphasizing the importance of health and functional fitness. Our participants are working their way up to running in the celebratory 5K in early November. We are so proud of the work and dedication they are putting in! We continue to emphasize the importance of attendance throughout September. Resources will come home in Wenonah folders every Monday this month. The homeroom with the best average daily attendance this month will be recognized on October 6th at our Whole School Morning Meeting and will enjoy Kona Ice! Join us as we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month September 15th through October 15th. We will highlight hispanic foods, Latin music, art and inspirational Latinx people throughout the month. Friday, September 15th is International Dot Day! Students are invited to wear clothing with dots. They have also been creating artwork using dots and will participate in estimation activities at school this week. Lastly, a reminder that Monday, September 18th is a Teacher Work Day. There is no school for students. We wish everyone a wonderful long weekend!

September is Attendance Awareness Month! We shared several resources with you in folders this week. We really want to encourage attendance in school each day! Every day matters! Please send your child to school each day unless they are sick according to our WPS policy. If they are sick, be sure to call our office so we can mark the absence correctly. Throughout this month, we will continue to share additional attendance resources and incentives. For example, the class with the best average daily attendance this month will get free Kona Ice at the end of the month! We appreciate your support as we work to encourage good attendance. We kick off our Cookie Dough fundraiser today! Your child will be bringing home information about it this afternoon. It is super easy to participate online as well. Stock up on cookie dough for the upcoming holiday season while raising money that supports school-wide activities and events! A reminder that Friday, September 8th is our Fall Picture Day. Tuesday, September 12th is Domino’s Spirit Night- another opportunity to show support for Wenonah. Lastly, so you can plan ahead, there is no school for students on September 18th. This is a Teacher Work Day. Thank you for all you do to support your student and our school community! We are so glad you are here!

Join us from 5 to 6:30 PM for food, fun, and more as you move throughout our school to see the changes in our building and spend time getting to know Wenonah staff. Friday is our first Genius Hour of the year! This is an exciting day for students as they participate in enrichment activities of their choice, spend time with friends in other classes and grades, and learn new skills. Be sure to ask about it after school! We are going to start our day together on Friday with a Whole School Morning. This is new experience for us and we are very much looking forward to spending time as an entire school community, practicing the skills we learn in the classroom Morning Meetings. Good afternoon, Wenonah families! We are so glad you're here! Our year is off to a smooth start; thank you for your support! This year you can expect a weekly message on Wednesday afternoon called "Wednesday Words." This message will include upcoming events and reminders for the next week at Wenonah. The same information will often be repeated in a Sunday afternoon call. You can also always find a calendar of events on our Events banner on our Wenonah website and in the app. Please be sure to sign up for Rooms for frequent communication with your student's teacher. Attendance is a focus for our school this year. Student attendance is incredibly important and as early as elementary school, sets the foundation for success in school for years to come. If your child is sick or misses school for an appointment, please call the office so we can excuse the absence. We kicked off our School Store Fundraiser this week! Support your child's classroom and teacher by making a donation. Students have an opportunity to earn cool prizes for participating! Next week, we look forward to welcoming families and friends for a Back to School Night on Thursday, August 31st from 5 to 6:30 PM. A pizza dinner will be provided. This is an opportunity for you to tour our school, see the renovations from the summer, meet your student's teacher and connect with others in our community. We hope you'll save the date!
