Waynesboro – September 9, 2025: At its monthly meeting, the Waynesboro School Board approved the appointment of Katrina Lassiter as the new Director of Valley Academy Regional Alternative School. Valley Academy, located in Fishersville, serves middle and high school students from Augusta County and Waynesboro Public Schools who benefit from a non-traditional learning environment. The school’s team works closely with students to provide the support and opportunities they need to be successful.
Ms. Lassiter has served as an Assistant Principal at Waynesboro High School for the past three and a half years, building strong relationships with students, families, and staff. She has also held leadership positions at Kate Collins Middle School, Charlottesville City Schools, and Norfolk City Schools. Before moving into administration, she worked as a special education teacher and as a Special Education Instructional Coach in Norfolk.
A graduate of Virginia Wesleyan University, Ms. Lassiter earned her Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, and Supervision from Regent University.
Superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Cassell shared his confidence in Ms. Lassiter’s leadership, saying, “Ms. Lassiter has made our entire community proud through her work as an Assistant Principal at Waynesboro High School. I am excited to see her step into this new role at Valley Academy and am confident she will continue to build on the strong foundation established by Mr. Van Devander and the dedicated staff. She has a deep understanding of our community and a special ability to connect with students who face academic, behavioral, social, and emotional challenges. I look forward to seeing the difference she and the Valley Academy team will make together.”
Ms. Lassiter will begin transitioning into her new role over the next week.
