At a called meeting of the Waynesboro School Board, Dr. Michelle Shiflett was appointed as the new Principal of William Perry Elementary School, further strengthening the division’s commitment to excellence in education. Dr. Shiflett will officially assume her duties on July 1, 2026.
Dr. Shiflett has served as the Assistant Principal at William Perry Elementary School for the past two school years. A long-serving member of Waynesboro Public Schools, her career within the division reflects a steadfast commitment to professional growth and service. She began her work in Waynesboro as an instructional aide and progressed through various roles, including teaching 2nd and 3rd grade, serving as a Reading Specialist, and assuming administrative responsibilities before being appointed Assistant Principal.
Dr. Shiflett holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Mary Baldwin University in English with a minor in Elementary Education, a Master of Education Degree from Mary Baldwin University in Reading, and a Doctorate from Liberty University with a focus on Educational Leadership and Supervision PK–12.
Dr. Jeffrey Cassell, Waynesboro’s Superintendent, expressed his confidence in Dr. Shiflett’s leadership, stating, “Dr. Shiflett is a collaborative, servant leader who has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the students, staff, and families of William Perry Elementary School. Her knowledge of the school community,
instructional expertise, and strong leadership skills position her well to continue advancing academic excellence and supporting the social and emotional growth of our students.”
The Waynesboro School Division eagerly anticipates Dr. Shiflett’s continued leadership at William Perry Elementary School and looks forward to the positive impact she will make in this new role.
