WAYNESBORO, Va. – The Waynesboro School Board acknowledges the retirement announcement made by Superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Cassell. Following more than 41 years in public education and 14 years of service as Superintendent of Waynesboro Public Schools, Cassell’s retirement is effective December 31, 2026.
Throughout his tenure, Cassell led the division with professionalism, integrity and a steadfast commitment to students, staff and families. Under his leadership, Waynesboro Public Schools has expanded educational opportunities, strengthened community partnerships, advanced facility upgrades, improved employee compensation and continued to remove barriers to student success.
School Board Chair Amber Lipscomb shared on behalf of the Board, “We thank Dr. Cassell for his fourteen years of dedicated service and leadership to Waynesboro Public Schools. Throughout his tenure, he has remained committed to student success and to strengthening opportunities for our students, staff, and schools. We are grateful for his leadership and wish him all the best in his next chapter.”
The Waynesboro School Board extends its sincere appreciation to Dr. Cassell for his years of dedicated service and leadership and looks forward to celebrating his contributions in the months ahead.
The School Board is committed to ensuring a strategic and intentional leadership transition for the division. The Board will partner with the Virginia School Boards Association to conduct a comprehensive superintendent search process that will include opportunities for community, staff, family and other stakeholder input.
