Virginia SUN Bucks is back! ☀️🛒

SUN Bucks helps eligible families buy groceries during summer break. In 2026, each eligible school-age child will receive a one-time $120 benefit.

Many eligible families are automatically enrolled, including families who receive SNAP or TANF, students who applied for and received free or reduced-price meals through the National School Lunch Program, and most children who receive certain types of income-based Medicaid.

Some families may need to apply. Families can learn more about eligibility, benefits, and how to apply here:

🌿🚣‍♀️ Learning Beyond the Classroom
A group of 21 students from Waynesboro High School recently explored Sherando Lake alongside the Chesapeake Bay Foundation!

Students learned about water quality, watersheds, macroinvertebrates, and water safety—all while gaining hands-on experience paddling 17-foot canoes.

This unforgettable experience was made possible by the Ridge Career Pathways Consortium “Innovative Ideas for the Next Generation” mini-grant.

Our students, teachers, and instructors had an incredible time—we’re already looking forward to the next adventure! 🌊

A Special Visit from a Wenonah Alum
Wenonah Elementary welcomed back former student and author Zaneta Freeman for a meaningful visit with our students!
She read her book Love is Like a Butterfly, written as a legacy for her son, who illustrated it while in third grade and shared her love for Wenonah, where her journey began. 🦋

Students also created their own pages about what makes them feel loved, bringing their ideas together into a class book to take back and treasure. 💙
