Good morning! Tomorrow, our students will take place in the first of 3 "Code Red Lockdown" drills that are required throughout the school year. Kindergarten is exempt from the first two according to the Code of Virginia. We will do one more next week, and I will let you know when that one takes place as well. Teachers are having age appropriate conversations about reasons why a school might go into lockdown (something happening in the community around BG that would require us to do so, someone entering the building that shouldn't be in the building, a wild animal on the playground, etc.). If you have any questions, you can reach out to me at mlperry@waynesboro.k12.va.us

This is a message for grades 3-5. I haven't quite figured out how to send messages directly to each homeroom yet. Thank you for your support of our instructional programs as we begin the 2023-2024 school year. We are looking forward to partnering with you to make this school year a positive and productive one for your child/children. As required by the state and federal Departments of Education, Virginia Growth Assessments (VGA) are to be administered for all students in grades 3 thru 8. The Growth Assessment testing window for the Fall will be between August 7 and October 6. Fall VGA tests will consist of approximately 17 - 25 questions and will focus on content from the student’s previous grade level. While the Growth Assessments cannot capture all that was taught within a school year, the assessments will provide our instructional staff a measure of your child’s current performance level. Instructional staff will use this information to plan for learning opportunities that will support the academic growth of all of our learners. We strive to provide a rigorous instructional program committed to high expectations that empowers student growth and facilitates collaboration amongst students while fostering independence. At Berkeley Glenn, our students will be testing on the following days: Reading - Tuesday, August 22 Math - Thursday, August 24 If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher or me. Sincerely, Michael Perry Principal, Berkeley Glenn Elementary
